For the CSA 2014 Winter share, Cooper Hurt created a series of two limited edition photographs from her series, River Place. Taken in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with a family farm serving as a backdrop, River Place addresses issues of memory, place, and the body. The images created for the CSA, mark the second phase of the series. In this phase she has moved from working inside the house, to outside, where she is collaborating with the land. Each photograph while an art object in its own right, also serves as a documentation of a private performance and an ephemeral sculpture built in nature.
Cooper Hurt has an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been in numerous shows and had her first international show this year at La Porte Peinte Centre Pour Les Arts in Noyers sur Serein, France. On the local level she was one of the selected artists for Contemporary Charleston 2011: Under the Radar and she was in the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2013. Cooper Hurt has taught art at the college level for years and is currently teaching at The Citadel.
